Leading Scottish hairdresser, Charlie Taylor, has been crowned Celebrity Hairdresser of the Year at the 2007 National Hairdressing Federation President’s Banquet held tonight at the Royal Horseguard’s Hotel in London’s Whitehall Place.

Charlie founded the rapidly expanding Charlie Taylor Hair Health & Beauty group of salons, whose growing celebrity clientele has included GMTV presenters Jenni Falconer and Fiona Phillips, championship golfer Tiger Woods, celebrity chef Nick Nairn, footballer Stephen Pressley, Radio 1 DJs Edith Bowman and Colin Murray, Prince William and opera diva Lesley Garrett.

One of the biggest events in the UK’s hairdressing calendar, the National Hairdressers Federation represents over 7000 hair stylists in the UK and 10,000 hairdressing businesses and this award is indicative of the highest professional and creative standards in the UK.

Charlie was there in person collect the award at the glittering ceremony in London.   “What an amazing month September has been!” commented Charlie who, just last week, also collected Scotland’s top businesswoman’s award, Scottish Woman of Achievement, at the prestigious Association of Scottish Businesswoman’s Awards held in her home town of Perth. “I’ve always had two sides to my career – the first more focussed on developing my skills and abilities as a stylist, the second as an entrepreneur and employer. It’s truly astounding to have my efforts in both of these aspects recognised in major awards in the same month. I’m truly delighted to receive the NHF’s Celebrity Hairdresser of the Year 2007 and honoured by the accolade” she said.

Charlie Taylor began her successful career as an entrepreneur after returning to Scotland from working with Trevor Sorbie in London, opening her first salon in Perth at the age of 26. During her career she has won the title Scottish Hairdresser of the Year three times, and is a member of the exclusive British Hairdressing Hall of Fame. Combining her international career as a stylist with bringing up a family, Charlie, working in partnership with her husband, Alastair Taylor, has successfully expanded the salon group to four salons in central Scotland with further new salons in the pipeline for 2008.

This year also sees the group branch out into internet retailing of specialist hair and beauty products.  At the forefront of Scottish hairdressing for almost 30 years, she has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the profession nationally and internationally. She serves on numerous industry boards, and acts as a professional advisor to major international product manufacturers.

Charlie is also a very active member of Scotland’s entrepreneurial community. As a member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange, she has committed to working with developing entrepreneurial businesses, giving new and upcoming individuals access to her 20 year’s experience in business.
